The Institute of Speech and Audiology was started in 1999, at Sweekaar, with Bachelor of Audiology and Speech language Pathology (B.ASLP) with a view to develop rehabilitation professionals in the field of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology. In 2003, we have added Masters training program Masters in Audiology and Speech language Pathology (MASLP), to develop Master trainers in the field of Speech and Audiology. Diploma in Hearing Language and Speech (DHLS) was also started in 2005.We provide a wide range of speech language and audiology services (evaluation and management) for our patients.
Academic programs
ISA has always been recognized as a pioneer for its academic and clinical training in the field of speech language pathology and audiology in both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Sweekaar is one of the institutes offering these courses to generate manpower to serve more number of persons with disabilities under one roof.
The department offered the following three courses during the year. The institute and the courses are affiliated to Osmania University and are recognized by Rehabilitation Council of India.
Bachelor of Audiology and Speech language Pathology (B.ASLP)
It is a 4 year (3 year + 10 months Internship) course in Audiology and Speech Language Pathology. It was started with 6 students. The present intake capacity is 25 students each batch. This was possible with the permission of RCI, OU and AP State Council for Higher Education. The students are not only from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana State, but from all over the country enriching the institution with experienced staff, latest equipment, an up-to-date library and laboratories. Our commitment to the quality, in this pursuit, be it service delivery, training, awareness creation, advocacy or community participated programs, has reaped rich rewards. These professionals render service to all age groups, from birth to the aged.
Master of Audiology and Speech language Pathology (M.ASLP)
It is a 2 year (4 semesters) post graduate course in Audiology and Speech Language Pathology. It was started with an intake of 10 students. Our students have also been enriched with knowledge imparted by visiting professionals who are experts in the field.
Diploma in Hearing Language and Speech (DHLS)
It is a 1 year course in Audiology and Speech Language Pathology. It was started with an intake of 20 students. The present intake capacity is 25 students each batch.
Students Performance
BASLP and MASLP Examinations are conducted by Osmania University. Odd semester Exams are conducted in the month of December/January and even semester exams are conducted in the month of June/ July. DHLS Examinations are conducted by RCI through AYJNIHH, Mumbai in the month of May/June .
We have achieved 100% results for B.ASLP and M.ASLP courses in the academic year 2016-17.
Clinical Services
Speech Language Pathology
In the Speech Diagnostic Department, various assessments have been done for various speech and language problems like stammering, voice problems, speech and language delay, aphasia, learning disability, hearing loss and mental retardation. The speech therapy services include therapy for all theseproblems.
Audiology
Diagnostics audiology department is equipped with all the latest equipment for the diagnosis of hearing loss. Different tests like Pure Tone Audiometry, Impedance Audiometry, Brainstem Evoked Response Audiometry and Oto Acoustic Emissions are also conducted by qualified professionals.
In the rehabilitation audiology department, we have hearing aids from different companies which will be fitted for the hearing impaired patients in all age range.

Projects
ISA is executing projects with The HANS Foundation, New Delhi for provision of Speech Language Pathology and audiology services to clients coming to Sweekaar academy of Rehabilitation Sciences. Data generated from this project will help in implementing time based management plans for different speech, language and hearing services.
